Meet Jennifer Gurske, Ten Forward's newest intern! She's joining us for the fall, and will be looking to help out pretty much everywhere. She recently took the time to answer a few questions about herself, inluding the crucial "Star Trek or Star Wars?" Read her answers below.

Jenn, excited about new camera gear

  1. What brought you to Ten Forward?
The opportunity to work with fun people and learn a lot about web and mobile applications.
  2. What are you looking forward to learning during your internship?
Everything! I'm excited to learn more about project management and the inner workings of web and mobile development.
  3. First impression of Ten Forward?
I love the open working environment! I have spent much of my professional life stuck in a small, brown, lightly padded cubicle or closed off in an office. The ease of interaction is fantastic. Everyone is very nice and I look forward to getting to know the group better. The snacks are a huge bonus.
  4. What's something about you people might find surprising?
I love airplanes! I have read too many books to count on flight (my favorite is Ask The Pilot).  I have toured both the Boeing factory in Everett, Washington and the Airbus headquarters/factory in Toulouse, France. I've sat in a cockpit more than a dozen times on 5 different types of jets and I bore people to death with flight facts.
  5. You've worked as an archaeologist - tell us a story about that!
I did! I received my MS in archaeology in 2013. I was working a site with the Forest Service in the Boundary Waters. The site I worked on had experienced a blow down and a prescribed burn years earlier and moss was growing everywhere from a wet autumn. We had to hike a mile to the site each day over fallen trees. One day, I slipped off a tree trunk and fell 7 feet into a large juniper bush. I was thankful for the bush catching my fall until we realized that I was allergic to juniper! After we picked what felt like hundreds of needles out of my face, neck, arm and left leg, I broke out in a huge rash. The Forest Service had to call in their seaplane to bring a doctor to our site. No more gin for me!
  6. Fill in the blanks: "If I could only __ one __ for the rest of my life, it would be __."
If I could only have one food for the rest of my life, it would be ice cream.
  7. Favorite video game or board game, TV show, band, slack emoji.
Board game is blind Pictionary - hilarious! TV show - Broadchurch. Band - Norah Jones. Emoji - the airplane, big surprise.
  8. Star Trek or Star Wars?
    Star Trek
